Have you heard of this ancient 3,000 year old Ayurvedic technique of oil pulling? Basically you take a tablespoon of coconut oil, sesame oil or olive oil ( i use virgin coconut oil) in your mouth every morning on waking up and swish it around and pull through your teeth for 15-20 minutes. After this, spit it out and brush your teeth as usual.
This maybe a little difficult to do initially , but as time goes on you'll get better at it. Start with 5 minutes. I usually go about cleaning up the house or washing the dishes while I'm swishing the coconut oil in my mouth. You can opt for any of the oils but coconut oil contains lauric acid which is a naturaly anti-microbial.
Benefits?
1. Healthy oral cavity
Our mouth is home to millions of bacteria and eliminating these bacteria in turn leaves you
with cleaner teeth and helps reduce bad breath. Your teeth would be whiter too.
2. General detoxification of the body
It's believed that by cleansing the oral cavity, we reduce the bacteria that's transferred into our
blood stream . I saw a programme on Doctor Oz which revealed that periodontal disease (sever
e gum disease) can result in heart disease and transfer of bacteria load to tissues in other parts
of the body.
Hence I think this is a pretty good way to start our day.. what do you think?
